    Calhoun

This historical neighborhood was once home to our namesakes George and Rozena Shaw. Whether you are in Clahoun or cross the cut, this vital community inspires our work at the Shaw Center. Calhoun was named after John C Calhoun. The neighborhood was divided into two parts when highway 123 was placed through the center of the neighborhood, running directly in front of our namesake’s former property.

This vital community inspires our work at the Shaw Center. To get from one side to the other, one would cross the bridge or 123 to get to the necessary destination. Depending on which side you're on, the term 'across the cut' was adopted, but it still stands as Calhoun (photos coming).. Goldenview Baptist church in Calhoun community was the pillar of the community and the sister church of Abel Baptist Church.
